On June 5th, 2019, Sunshine Gardens was fortunate enough to be visited by the WOLVES of Wolfwood Refuge!  A wolf rescue agency, Wolfwood dedicates their time and compassion to rescuing abandoned and abused wolves & wolfdogs.  They bring these beautiful creatures to the public for viewing, education, and of course, lots of petting & love!

Sunshine Gardens’ own caregiver and QMAP Cathy Babich has been volunteering at Wolfwood Refuge for years!  Truly a caring person, through and through.

We’d like to thank the Wolfwood Refuge for taking their time to bring knowledge and joy to Sunshine residents, staff, and the public that was able to attend this event.

The Wolfwood Refuge Mission Statement:

Wolfwood is dedicated to protecting the welfare of wolves and wolfdogs, and promoting an understanding of these animals in the hope of dispelling fear and opening the way for a healthy relationship between humans and wolves. We address these goals on a multitude of levels:

  1. Wolfwood provides a safe refuge for unwanted and homeless wolfdogs. All animals are contained in large enclosed areas. No animal is ever chained. All efforts are made to provide the best physical, mental, social and psychological environment for each animal. Each wolfdog is considered and treated as an individual with unique needs and qualities.
  2. Wolfwood provides extensive information and education on wolf and wolfdog behavior and issues surrounding them. Seminars and educational programs are presented to schools, state parks, the general public, other animal care facilities and various institutions. We also provide information and instruction to current or potential owners of these animals and the human behavior required when dealing with them.
  3. Wolfwood’s mission is to dispel myth and misinformation, judgment and prejudice, cruelty and inhumane treatment.

What our families say

“My mom is cared for physically and emotionally in a manner that my dad would have been proud to give her. There is rarely a day that goes by that I don’t thank God she is there.”

“[My mother’s] Alzheimer’s Disease had progressed to the point that a secure facility of a modest size was the only situation which for her circumstances and, in fact, encouraged her to thrive.”
